Meet Grant Draughn – Associate Attorney

Grant Draughn, has officially launched his legal career with the esteemed W. James Payne Law Firm. His passion for criminal defense is not merely a profession but a calling. Grant was a high-achieving student and competition winner, Mr. Draughn maximized his time at Campbell Law School, earning accolades and honing his advocacy skills. His dedication and drive have paid off. Upon being officially sworn in as an attorney in October 2025, Mr. Draughn is Poised to “Take Action” on Behalf of the Community Alongside the Team of the W. James Payne Law Firm.

During his time at Campbell Law School, Mr. Draughn distinguished himself nationally through several competitions across the nation. Mr. Draughn even received an Outstanding Advocate Award for his individual performance and was also awarded “Best Direct Examination”, in one of the competitions.

Under Mr. Payne’s guidance, Mr. Draughn participated in an intensive, hands-on mentorship program for several years that immersed him in the practice of law. He gained a deep understanding of substantive legal principles and learned how to apply them with precision and purpose. More than theory, Mr. Draughn was taught how to channel his energy toward client advocacy, informing individuals of their rights and supporting them with clarity and compassion throughout the legal process. His passion for litigation continues to guide his path; he thrives in the courtroom, where his advocacy skills and commitment to justice take center stage. His goal is to advance his career to higher-level felonies and eventually get sworn in for the Federal Court, continuing to support law enforcement as well.

Mr. Draughn is currently working on new cases for the Firm, such as DWIs, Domestic Violence, Assault & Battery Cases, Drug Crimes, and more. His diverse experience and passion for justice have made him well-equipped to handle a wide range of criminal defense cases.

As Mr. Draughn embarks on this new journey with the W. James Payne Law Firm, he does so with one of the most impactful criminal lawyers in the industry.

Along with the great news of Mr. Draughn joining the Firm as an official associate attorney in 2025, the W. James Payne Law Firm is expanding into “New Areas” of criminal defense to better serve the community.

This expansion is a testament to the firm’s commitment to providing a higher level of advocacy. Mr. Draughn desires to continue the legacy and mission of W. James Payne to “Create the Opportunity for Freedom” for all.
